The second release in the Études series of cassettes, Études II: White Box is Nathan Moody’s newest release featuring only one instrument. All tracks were performed on the small, white Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesizer. The artist bends this cheery white synthesizer, usually known for upbeat techno and electro, to his rather (ahem) moody aesthetic. These compositions include languorous soundscapes and mysterious timbres, richer in tone and texture than one expects from this extremely digital instrument.
INSANELY good. I can’t believe some of these sounds are coming from the OP-1. Not only is the playing exceptional but the mix is just so good. Incredible job all the way around.
I was immediately floored by what you did with the OP-1…the music you made with it is unbelievable…very inspirational/motivating.
…made entirely with a Teenage Engineering OP-1, a machine that I could never have dreamed to make sound as good as he does. A very rewarding listening adventure, for those willing to take it.
Look for more in the Études series soon.
