They tend to be aggressive, loud, and blippy. Some accept MIDI, some accept CV, some accept no sync signal at all.<\/p>\n<p>One evening I wondered if I could coax them into some semblance of ambient drones, to loosen myself up and not record to a fixed tempo, and to not get too &#8220;precious&#8221; with editing in post. Somehow the angry nature of these devices just seems to bleed through anyway. Or is that\u00c2\u00a0<em>my<\/em> angry nature?<\/p>\n<p>So, the result of this cathartic experiment was &#8220;angry ambient.&#8221; Or, <em>angrient<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2871 alignright\" alt=\"angrient1\" src=\"https:\/\/noisejockey.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/angrient1.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"457\" srcset=\"https:\/\/noisejockey.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/angrient1.jpg 270w, https:\/\/noisejockey.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/angrient1-171x290.jpg 171w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This track features the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All takes recorded live into Logic Pro X: No sync to anything, no MIDI, no CV.<\/li>\n<li>One track of a <a href=\"http:\/\/bleeplabs.com\/store\/nebulophone\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bleep Labs Nebulophone<\/a>, with its alligator clip clamped onto a key for a sustained drone, r<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">ecorded through a <a href=\"http:\/\/redpandalab.com\/products\/particle\/\" target=\"_blank\">Red Panda Particle<\/a> pedal set to Reverse, both tweaked live. The dry and effected track were tracked simultaneously.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Another droned Nebulophone track went through the Particle set to Delay, and then through a <a href=\"http:\/\/seppukufx.com\/products\/memory-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\">Seppuku Memory Loss pedal<\/a>, with its clean microchip inserted, all three tweaked live.\u00c2\u00a0The dry and effected track were tracked simultaneously.<\/li>\n<li>One track of the <a href=\"http:\/\/rarewaves.net\/products\/grendel-drone-commander\/\" target=\"_blank\">RareWaves Grendel Drone Commander<\/a>, recorded 100% dry. That thing needs no love, especially when its bandpass filters gets overdriven at low frequencies. Yummy.<\/li>\n<li>One track of the <a href=\"http:\/\/bleeplabs.com\/store\/bleep-drum-midi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bleep Labs Bleep Drum<\/a>, played live in Noise mode, but then run through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glitchmachines.com\/downloads\/fracture\/\" target=\"_blank\">Glitchmachines&#8217; Fracture<\/a> plugin first, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelnorris.info\/software\/soundmagic-spectral\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Norris Spectral Partial Glide<\/a> filter. That&#8217;s what generates the bright, granulated shimmers.
