I am a composer\/musician and sound designer that loves to build worlds and create mental cinema using sound in the form of albums, games, and film.<\/p>\n<p>I record under my own name as well as in a variety of collaborative projects on my own <a href=\"https:\/\/studioobsidian.bandcamp.com\/artists\">Studio Obsidian<\/a> record label.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Ambient music that unsettles and provokes the listener rather than comforting them.&#8221;<br \/>\n-Electronic Sound Magazine<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Using synthesizers, acoustic and hand-made instruments, and found sounds, I have released more than a dozen theme-driven solo albums. I am (non-exclusively) represented by <a href=\"https:\/\/robotrepair.disco.ac\/\">Robot Repair Music Collection<\/a> for sync licensing, and <a href=\"http:\/\/nathanmoody.bandcamp.com\">my music<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asoundeffect.com\/sounddesigner\/noise-jockey-sound-design\/\">sound design<\/a> have graced remixes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackoutclubgame.com\/\">video games<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.bostonglobe.com\/spotlight\/gladiator\/\">podcasts<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/films\/the-cave\/#\/\">Oscar\u00ae-nominated documentaries<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/stimulant.com\">interactive installations<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/sterileflower.com\">experimental<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aTvb4pFaF8Y\">corporate<\/a> films, as well as terrestrial and online radio. I&#8217;ve collaborated musically with musicians, filmmakers, photographers, game audio directors, and creative directors of all stripes.<\/p>\n<p>My work has been released on record labels such as <a href=\"http:\/\/din.co.uk\">DiN<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/modularfield.io\">ModularField<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/flagdayrecordings.bandcamp.com\/\">Flag Day Recordings<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/tectorumtapes.bandcamp.com\/\">Tectorum Tapes<\/a>, and more. I have performed at one-off events as well as event series and festivals such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.distortion.co\/binary.html\">Binary Society<\/a> (San Jose), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalanalog.org\/\">DigitalAnalog<\/a> (Munich), <a href=\"http:\/\/velocityseattle.com\">Velocity<\/a> (Seattle), and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/V7KhDWAi1ro?t=918\">Piqued<\/a> (San Francisco). I publish and release music through my own label, <a href=\"http:\/\/studioobsidian.com\">Studio Obsidian<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/ascap.org\">ASCAP<\/a>), and I&#8217;m a member of the Audio Engineering Society (<a href=\"http:\/\/aes.org\">AES<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Nathan Moody continues to carve a path that is unique, tangled, and flowing&#8221;<br \/>\n-Igloo Magazine<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am also a <a href=\"http:\/\/obsidiansound.net\">mastering engineer<\/a>,\u00a0 a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/noisejockey.net\">sound designer,<\/a> and an audio editor for linear and interactive media. I have an improbably diverse creative background as an award-winning, festival-screened <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/noisejockey\">motion graphics artist and experimental filmmaker<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nathanmoody.org\">interactive creative director<\/a>, user experience designer, and illustrator.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;&#8230;an impressive catalogue of dark, expansive electronic music&#8230;but this is definitely ambient music, just one with considerable bite.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a huge fan of the term &#8216;dark ambient&#8217;, but in this case it <strong>literally<\/strong> is.&#8221;<br \/>\n-Toneshift<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I write\u00a0about creativity, audio, music, and more on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/noisejockey.net\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Noise Jockey blog<\/a> and for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.synthtopia.com\/content\/2019\/03\/12\/open-source-01-a-new-print-journal-for-synthesists\/\">Open Source Magazine<\/a>.
